THE IMPORTANCE OF PLANT NUTRIENTS…
Just like animals, plants also need nutrients in order to stay healthy. They use these nutrients in similar way to us. they use them to fight off diseases, grow and reproduce. There are 3 primary nutrients which a plant needs.
NITROGEN (N)
Nitrogen is so vital because it is a major component of chlorophyll, the compound by which plants use sunlight energy to produce sugars from water and carbon dioxide (i.e., photosynthesis). It is also a major component of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins.
PHOSPHORUS (P)
Phosphorus is an essential plant nutrient for growth. Phosphorus performs functions in the plant metabolism, structure, and reproduction that cannot be performed by any other element. The concentration of phosphorus in plants usually is lower than the concentration of nitrogen, potassium, or calcium.
POTASSIUM (K)
Potassium is associated with the movement of water, nutrients and carbohydrates in plant tissue. It’s involved with enzyme activation within the plant, which affects protein, starch and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production. The production of ATP can regulate the rate of photosynthesis.
